Hear the full story, link in bio. On @talkingtrail: Fort Union was once the most important fur trade post on the Upper Missouri River. Through archaeological excavations and careful research, the post's buildings have been reconstructed on the footprints of the original structures. Hear the full story about Fort Union, link in bio. Following along Talking Trail: Zortman, located near the Fort Belknap Reservation, was named after Oliver ‘Pete’ Zortman, who, alongside his partner, constructed a mill near the townsite to extract low-grade ore from rock. Mines were sprung up into the mountainsides shortly after. Today, the mining operation is undergoing a reclamation process — the town's residents are transforming into a quaint and nostalgic village. Hear the story of Zortman and others by following the link in our bio. It’s nice to see open water and a few waves on Fort Peck Lake. #northeastmontana #missouririvercountry #fortpecklake #openwater
