1. Sidney

Grab breakfast bright and early at a local spot like Sunny’s Family Restaurant or Sadie’s.

2. Fort Union

Head north to check out the Fort Union Trading Post. A national historic site, Fort Union is known as the most important fur trading post on the upper Missouri from 1829 to 1867. Visit the Bourgeois House Visitor Center bookstore where you can browse a wide variety of educational items and authentic historical reproductions.
 
Birdwatcher Bonus: Enjoy the drive and keep your eyes peeled for wildlife! Birders can spot species like great blue herons, turkey vultures, American kestrels, yellow warblers and more in this region.

3. Fairview

In Fairview, grab lunch at the Double Barrel Saloon. Then check out the enormous Fairview Lift Bridge, which stretches 1,320 feet across the Yellowstone River, before heading back to Sidney.

4. MonDak Heritage Center

Stop in at the MonDak Heritage Center for local art and history exhibits, occasional live music and events, a gift shop and more.

5. Sidney Country Club

6. Downtown Sidney

Spend an evening in downtown Sidney. Cattle-Ac, Mucho Si and The Depot make for great dinner spots, while The Shoppes at Peifer’s General Store, MiMi’s Kitchen, Montana Bare Cave and Huckleberry Children’s Boutique are fun shops where you can find locally inspired gifts. 7. Stargazing Outside Of Town

Eastern Montana is home to some of the darkest skies in the lower 48 states, and Seven Sisters Wildlife Management Area is an exceptionally magical place to gaze up at the cosmos. Head south and go one mile east of Crane.

• Explore Elk Island just south of Sidney for agate hunting and fishing access.
