Welcome to northeast Montana where the recreational opportunities are as great as the western hospitality. Glasgow, recognized Superhost community, is the hub for business and agriculture in Northeast Montana. Fort Peck Lake is 17 miles southeast of Glasgow. The lake is the largest hydraulic earth-filled dam in the world providing a lake of 130 miles in length and 1,600 miles of shoreline. There is more shoreline than California or Florida. The dam itself is 4 miles long and 250 feet high. Fort Peck Lake encompasses the 1,000,000 acre C.M. Russell National Wildlife Game Refuge, 12 public recreation areas which include boat ramps, rest rooms, picnic shelters and camping facilities. The In-Fisherman Professional Walleye Trail fishing tournament has been a frequent visitor to this area. Other activities which take place on the lake include: Annual Ice Fishing Tournament (third weekend in February), Longest Dam Run (third weekend in June), Governor's Cup Walleye Tournament (second weekend in July), Feather Fest (early June). Things to see and do in this area include: Fort Peck Interpretive Center, Fort Peck Multi-Species Fish Hatchery, great fishing, boating, wind surfing, hunting, powerhouse tours, a dinosaur museum (Fort Peck Paleontology Station), Kiwanis Park (playground, horseshoe pits, amphitheater, nature trail, youth fishing ponds), Lewis & Clark Overlook, Fort Peck Summer Theater (June - September), Pioneer Museum 'From Dinosaur Bones to Moon Walk', Leo B. Coleman Wildlife Exhibition Pasture, dining at the Fort Peck Hotel (seasonal), Spillway and Fort Peck Indian Reservation, Children's Museum. In northeast Montana, you can enjoy recreational opportunities, rolling wheat fields, cattle grazing on the open range, a fine meal, and a Big Sky sunset so beautiful you stand in awe.
