Garfield County is in the Hell Creek Formation, known for some of the best dinosaur fossil attractions.
There are two main access points in Garfield county to Fort Peck Lake – Hell Creek with the amenities of the marina, camper hookups and motel, and Devils Creek, with a boat ramp and free camping along the shore.
The Hell Creek Recreation Area, on Fort Peck Lake, is only 26 miles away. Walleye fishing has become very popular there. The Garfield County Museum, located in Jordan, highlights the 1912 Homesteading era and has a large section of Montana fossils, including a full size Triceratops and T-Rex head. For fishing enthusiasts, Fort Peck Lake Reservoir contains northern pike, paddle fish, sager, lake trout, small bass and Chinook salmon. All marinas include concrete boat ramps. The area offers fishing, boating, camping, sightseeing and wildlife viewing. Also, we are right in the middle of great hunting for deer, antelope, elk and birds.
Nearby Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge has excellent viewing opportunities for elk, deer, antelope, bighorn sheep, raptors and waterfowl. A two-hour, 20-mile auto tour begins and ends on US Highway 191.
